Over the years Gate built a business of housekeeping and childcare to support her small family. She is a talented and thrifty entrepreneur, who deeply invests in the lives and happiness of her clients. She is also a skilled cook, able to prepare healthy, organic and gluten-free meals in a variety of regional cultural cuisines. She also makes and sells specialty gluten-free baked goods to local and ex-pat communities here in Chiang Mai.
Marriage is difficult in any culture and Gate’s ended badly years ago, but she and her son, Nung, pressed on together.
In the summer of 2017, her only son, Nung, 18, lost his life in a tragic motorcycle accident on the way home from his job at a restaurant. Nung’s passing was devastating for her as a mother, and it left Gate to provide and care for herself in a culture that depends on children to support parents as they age. Gate has been a source of strength and encouragement and a strong Christian example for so many in her community. When this tragedy struck, she continued to work and care for others despite the overwhelming grief of her loss.
